If you're interested, these saddles run from $2000 to $3800 with personalization and they come with an exchangeable gullet system.
Oops- I should mention I first saw these saddles on Dappled Grey.
Where is the dressage version! I also want a Western one... ha! love this idea. It might look funny, but with 90+ summer weather, I can get over vanity pretty quickly! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a dressage model but it doesn't appear to have the seat... um... hole.
DeleteI think they look nice! Did you see the winged model?? More for show, but WOW...I loved it.
ReplyDeleteYes, that saddle was awesome. Your comment reminded me that I should link back to Dappled Grey- it's there now :)
DeleteIt's an English McClellan, how cute!
ReplyDeleteI admit I had to google that- but yes! They do look similar. Though I hope the original version isn't as uncomfortable as it looks.
DeleteIntriguing, but looking at it makes me feel....I don't know....awkward and shy, for some reason..... :-)
ReplyDeleteI saw some civil war cavalry saddles that had a similar cut out over the spine. It's supposedly really good for the horses back. Of course, back then the seat was made of wood. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you and Funder are thinking of the same saddle. The McClellan? I write as if I didn't have to google it earlier...
DeletePee hole?
ReplyDeleteCall me vain, old fashion, a stick in the mud, whatever, but I could never ride in a saddle that has a giant hole, ummm... yeah, no giant holes in the seat!
ReplyDeleteC'mon, get ahead of the trend. We'll all be cutting holes out of our saddles in a few years ;)
DeleteI think there are bicycle seats with the "breathing room" too... apparently they don't cut off circulation to your naughty bits. ;)
DeleteNot for me. It might work well for coolness but there's just something about it that looks wrong...
ReplyDeleteCould it be that it looks like a toilet? Because that's what gets me...
DeleteI think I'd rather return to the days when ventilation came from putting your saddle on your horse without a pad...something I still do from time to time.
ReplyDeleteoh, my! a crotchless saddle? that's a little too kinky for me ;-) call me old-fashioned, but i think i'll stick with the full coverage model. i've never felt the need for that much ventilation, but supposing one did, couldn't they just post for a while or ride in a half-seat or something if they really needed to air things out? just wondering...
ReplyDeleteI've heard they're good for people with bad backs. Relief on spine and less concussion I guess. The xc version is ugly. I'd try the SJ one.
