Aloha!

I thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures from Hawai'i:

What I did in Hawai'i:
  • Ate little bananas
  • Ate Spam
  • Had a massage
  • Swam with dolphins
  • Went snorkeling
  • Took a surfing lesson
  • Took a gazillion pictures
  • Lusted over orchids
  • Got a violently red sunburn
  • Had a great time!

We got home around midnight on Friday and the first thing I did was go out and check on the Quarters. My husband thought I was a crazy person, but priorities are priorities. It took me a while to find them in the dark, but once I did I brought them up to the barn to eat and get their body checks. They are A-Okay!

It comes out that I left at the perfect time- I snuck in a ride on Thursday before I left and tacked up Gwen to be ponied. She was feeling a little on edge and actually bucked and pulled the rope out of my hand while we were cantering. I asked for a canter again a little later and she pulled the rope out of my hand again. Apparently somebody was going into heat that day, I can't think of a better time for me to check out than when she's feeling hormonal. She was back to normal again today. I didn't ride Coriander because it's been raining like crazy here lately and the ground is horribly wet and muddy, but since my rides on her don't go anywhere I got on her. She had some slight bobbles, like forgetting that leg pressure means go forward, but for a week off she was really good. I was happy with our short ride.

Coming home from Hawai'i really brought home how close we are to winter, I figure I've only got about a month of daylight left where I can work with her during the week. It'll be interesting to see how far we get before daylight savings time. In the meantime, I'll be busy catching up with what everyone else did while I was gone!

  1. The pictures are beautiful and it sounds like you had a great time with lots of fun things to do.

Glad the Quarters were fine. You did miss lots of rain but don't worry I see in the forecast there's plenty more coming this way. And don't say winter, I don't want to even think about that yet.

  2. Yippee more rain, awesome, I can't wait (sarcasm). We've had quite the wet year, haven't we?

  3. I don't know why I've always remembered this, but I've always been intrigued by the Hawaiian names for lava...pahoehoe and aa. I've never been there, but my parents went for an anniversary once and my dad sunburned his feet so badly they swelled terribly (can't forget suntan lotion for your tootsies!). Glad to hear the crew did fine while you were gone.

  4. Sounds (and looks) so nice! I could use some warm and rain-free weather right about now :) Glad you're back though and sounds like it was a good time!

  5. Welcome back!

I see some nice Pahoehoe there. You must have been on the Big Island. That is an excellent coral picture, too.

Doesn't it just smell wonderful in Hawaii?

  6. Hi Fetlock, the photo in the middle shows pahoehoe- the black lava on the beach. I got some pictures of a'a but that stuff isn't nearly as photogenic. I've never sunburned my feet, that must have been awful!

Hi TBA, yes it was nice to have a break from the rain :)

Hi Val, yes we were at the Big Island and yes it did smell really good! I think it was all the ginger.

  7. Yea, what an excellent sounding trip. Wish I could smell those heavenly smells. YOU officially are the 5th person I know , in a small circle, that had gone to Hawaii in the last 2 mo!!!
I have to wait for another 2 1/2 yrs. When my husband turns the Big 5-oh! It's the last state in the union he has to visit...fitting huh.

    Sending your girth today~
    ;)
    Happy Autumn

  8. Of course, you went and checked on the Quarters as soon as you got home... :-) I have a friend that goes to Hawaii with her husband every year for two weeks. It's their favourite place to vacation. Glad you guys had a good time. You swam with dolphins??? Ever lucky!

p.s. Love the header picture of Gwen. Make me want to kiss her nose!! :-)

  9. KK you will love it there, it's gorgeous and the people are so nice. I think visiting for a 50th birthday is a great idea- was Hawai'i the 50th state to join the union?

    Thanks for the girth :)

Wolfie it was so cool- we were kayaking through a bay where a pod of them were jumping and playing. I got in the water and could see them ramping up for a jump, leaving the water, and landing back into it. Awesomeness.

How funny you should say that about her nose. I don't think a woman has ever met her without kissing it.
