Post-op

What a relief it is to no longer have these screws in my leg.
I'm a little (lot) sore today at the incision sites where they took them out, BUT the inside of my ankle doesn't hurt at all. Mega improvement. Hopefully the surface pain will go away in a few days and then I'll be all set to start building some muscle back up.

In not so good news, Coriander has a hole in his hoof. Can you see it down there?
Aaargh! Until I can get somebody out to take a look at it I'm not turning him out on rocky pasture. Instead they get to run around in the ring.
He looks pretty happy though, don't you think?

  1. Yay you! No more metal in your leg!

Gem has huge hunks out of all of his hooves. It is from running around in the fields, for sure. I understand the hooves get a little brittle after going through the winter and then muddy season. He has an appointment with the farrier next week. I am not too concerned....no cracks up the wall or into the base. Hope Coriander just needs a trim!

  2. Okay, I just got confirmation from an ex-farrier that his hoof is not that bad and probably won't lead to a nasty crack. I prodded it a bit and he wasn't sensitive at all.

He's probably got the same thing going on with his feet as Gem does. I'll keep an eye on it.

  3. Whew! Good that you checked. Gem's are so bad that he will definitely need two trims to get rid of the missing hunks of hoof.

When are you getting on him??!!!! :-)

  5. I'm so glad to hear you're screws are out and you're on your way to feeling a lot better. It's good you got his hoof checked out and can feel better about it not being that serious.

  6. Hi GHM, it helps that my stepfather used to be a farrier. He doesn't do the hands-on work anymore but he'll look at pictures. Gwen's feet haven't looked that great either. They started self-trimming when the ground got really hard (lack of rain). No cracks though, so I'm not too worried.
